ok, well not much has been happening lately. i mean, i haven't even had much homework this past week, only like one or two assignments that i had to take home to do. its kinda nice. let's see. some completely random thoughts.

  • i found out that miss mullikin and miss talmadge were talking about me, and they both agree that i'm a bright student, apparently. some times i wonder where people get these ideas.
  • i went and had a talk with miss barr about college. ya know, about what to do when applying and getting accepted and crap.
  • i had to sell carnations all this week for NHS. that was fun. i had help though. big thanks to kim yoakum for that.
  • while playing football in PE, i broke a nail. i know, that doesn't sound like such a big deal, but my nails were about an inch long. so i had to cut them all down because i couldn't just leave one short and the rest long because that would have driven me insane before long. so, now i have nails that reach just past the nail bed. that was probably my most upsetting moment of the week. pretty sad, i know. starting over kinda sucks. this is the shortest my nails have been since i stopped biting them.

ok, well, i think i'm done for now. i gotta get some sleep because later i have to fill out my senior student-of-the-month application. then i have to get some work done on writing my critique for ap english. not to mention, i should try to get some reading done in great expectations. i have to have it read by a week from monday. i doubt i'll finish it, but i already know all the important things that happen in the end, thanks to a discussion book in the library on great expectations, so i hope to at least do good on the final test based on that. well, later

herscher Meth. church serving labor day dinner at HHS.

i'll just let you interpret this sign that the state bank of herscher was advertising. i think there's a subliminal message somewhere in the message. i think it just proves what we all thought to begin with. and i swear, that's exactly what the sign said. really, we should spell out the word methodist next time. don't abreviate it with meth; that makes for a totally different meaning. especially when its at the school.

anyway, my three-day weekend flew by incredibly quickly. good thing i didn't have any homework to do. besides that, i really don't have anything to say. woo hoo, four-day school week. i have to sell carnations all this week during lunch though. oh well, not a problem. well, i should go back to my not-so-extraordinary life. later

woo hoo. homework-free three-day weekend. i just love those.

okay, so i can easily sum up what happened in the first act of The Merchant of Venice.

~scene one: antonio and bassanio are talking, some of their friends show up, they talk some more, friends leave, and bassanio asks antonio for money to get boats and go seek out portia, antonio agrees.

~scene two: portia and her (what i'll refer to as her) handmaiden (makes me think of queen amidala) are talking about boys. portia's dad is dead, but pre-arranged how portia would decide her husband. the potential husbands will pick one of three boxes, and if he picks the right one, he gets to wed portia. portia doesn't like any of the guys that want to marry her. she does hear that bassanio may be coming to seek her hand and confides to nerissa (the handmaiden) that she wouldn't mind marrying bassanio.

~scene three: bassanio is talking to shylock, a jewish moneylender. lots of argument over whether or not shylock should lend money to bassanio under antonio's name. antonio comes along to straighten everything out, promising that bassanio will pay back the money, and shylock finally agrees to lend 3000 ducats to bassanio for 3 months, even though he doesn't like either of the men.

hmm, my cousin's last name is ducat. imagine that, my cousin's last name is venetian currency.
is anyone else confused as to why this is one of shakepeare's great plays? its kinda sad that i don't really have anything else to say. i get to spend tomorrow at the kankakee river valley regatta. yah, boat races. monday is labor day, so i'm obviously stuck seeing people from school all day at village park. yippee. well, that's it for me, i think. <--look, a parenthetical expression!! you gotta watch out, or those stupid little things just creep up everywhere.

okay, so NHS meeting today. it wasn't bad. i actually didn't dread having to get up early for it. we basically discussed Homecoming week at the meeting. NHS sells the carnations, so everyone buy a carnation next week during lunch!!! anyway, i made posters during the meeting and first hour to advertise selling the flowers. i think mine are at least readable, if not incredibly pretty. not like i care if they're pretty. so, i'm the only NHS member with B lunch, so i'm selling the flowers by myself. all week. yippee!! i can't wait. seriously though, i don't care; it doesn't bother me that i get to work. i mean, if i'm in charge, then i don't have to argue with people as to how things should be done.

briggs gave us a nice little surprise today. i mean, we're already reading Great Expectations, but now briggs has told us we're gonna read The Merchant of Venice before our field trip on the 20th. we have to read the whole first act before tuesday. yeah, now i get to read two books that have no anchor in my reality. okay, i'm sure i can find someway to relate to the two books, but its Dickens and Shakespeare, so i don't really care to try.

other than that, we're up to 75 crunches now in PE. i might accidently develope stomach muscles before this is done. well, i might, if i hadn't eaten so many pigs in a blanket after school. oh well. what can stomach muscles really do for me anyway?

brief C.A.P.T.A.I.N.S. meeting tomorrow morning at 7:50. can't wait *cough, sarcasm, cough*  oh well. i'll survive- c'est vendredi.
